Recipe: How To Make A Pumpkin Spice Latte At Home
Pumpkin Spice Latte season is upon us, and we’re willing to bet you’ve been tempted more than just once to head to your local cafe or the Starbucks down the street to get your fix.
The only problem? Just one medium-sized pumpkin-flavored drink somehow comes out to $7 and some change, making that PSL a treat that you can’t indulge in too many times before you’ve spent $50 of your hard-earned money on a few fancy coffee beverages.
But this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some pumpkin spice this fall—not if you become your own barista. Sure, it takes a little bit of time to learn, and a little bit of money to buy the materials, but once you’re able to craft your own PSL at home, you’ll wonder why you ever spent nearly $10 for someone else to do what it costs you next to nothing to do yourself.
Here’s how you can start making your own Pumpkin Spice Lattes at home.
The ingredients:
2 ounces ground espresso (for 2 shots)
milk of your choice
1 tablespoon pumpkin puree
1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
3/4 tablespoon vanilla extract
The instructions (for a hot latte):
Most of us don’t have a professional espresso machine lying around, but this doesn’t mean you can make espresso at home. We recommend using a Bialetti moka pot to brew your coffee on the stove (here’s a simple tutorial to get you going—we promise it’s easier than you think!).
*While the Biatelli doesn’t make “true” espresso, it absolutely does the trick of giving your coffee an espresso-like flavor at a fraction of the price.
While the coffee is brewing, in a small pot over low heat, mix the pumpkin puree, milk, pumpkin pie spice, and vailla, whisking until combined.
Once the coffee is done, pour it into a mug of your choice, and then mix in the pumpkin mixture. Top with cinnamon (and whipped cream if you’re treating yourself!).
The Instructions (for an iced latte):
For those days when you’d rather cool off with your Pumpkin Spice Latte, here are a couple of easy changes you can make:
Rather than mixing pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla on the stove, try combining them with a handheld frother and pour the mixture over ice.
Pour your espresso over the ice and pumpkin mixture, and combine well (or give it a shake if you’re using a container with a lid, like a mason jar).
Top it off with a milk of your choice and enjoy!
