6 Morning Rhythms To Start Your Day Off Right

We’ll be honest: nighttime is our favorite time of day. The evenings are quiet and cool, and our only responsibility left for the day is finishing one more chapter of our latest read before we slowly drift off to dreamland.

We often associate our mornings with busyness, chaos, and stress — I have to get this done! I need to accomplish this before midday! Once three rolls around, the day is done! — so much that we’ve taken away any enjoyment we could possibly find in these early hours of our day. We see the morning as a non-stop marathon from the moment we wake up. But what if we could change this?

Even if we’ll never be a “morning person,” we can make our mornings that much more bearable and beautiful to us just by implementing a few small, simple rhythms that will bring life to us, not drain it from us.

01 | Stretch it out.

Just because your eyes are open doesn’t mean your body is awake yet. Stay in bed for an extra 10 minutes after you wake up, but make the most of it by doing a few simple stretches that will help fend off any aches that could develop throughout the day by taking turns pulling each knee into your chest for a few minutes at a time.

02 | Get yourself a cuppa.

There are few things so wonderful as the first cup of caffeine each day; whether you’re a tea or coffee person, give yourself a reason to get out of your cozy duvet and get a strong cuppa brewing — get yourself a special mug to make it all the more delightful.

03 | Light a candle.

The golden glow of a candle has a special way of making every space lovely, relaxing, and dignified — especially one that creates a scent that perfectly matches you and your surroundings. Light a candle as you enter your day to cultivate a sense of beauty each morning.

04 | Center yourself.

Open up a devotional or dive into some quiet time with your Bible for as much time as your schedule permits; allow yourself to be still and immersed, breathing in peace before the chaos of the day. You’ll undoubtedly feel that much more capable of taking on whatever the day holds.

05 | Journal for a few minutes.

Sometimes mornings can feel overwhelming, putting us in a bad mood for the rest of the day. Take a few minutes to journal about what you’re feeling, centering and tethering your thoughts, and write down whatever you’re looking forward to that day. Make your mornings center around a healthy anticipation of all this day has to offer rather than dread.

06 | Write up a to-do list.

Now, it’s time to get entirely practical. Jot down a quick to-do list that will help keep you on track. Seeing whatever needs to be accomplished in list-form will make it feel far less daunting, and being able to cross out items throughout the day will feel all the more rewarding.
