10 Ways To Make Your Homeschooling Room Magical

One of the most wonderful things about educating at home is you ability to tailor and design not just your children’s education, but the place they’re learning in. Education isn’t simply facilitated and inspired by the things kids learn, but also the environment in which they learn them.

Whether you’re just beginning your homeschooling journey, or are more towards the middle, or even the end, or you’ve yet to begin, it’s never too late to cultivate a bit of beauty and whimsy in your homeschooling room.

We’ve compiled a list of a few things to help you do just that — to take your homeschooling room from a plain, white-walled room to a whimsical, imaginative, inspiring place of learning that will awaken both you and your children’s love of learning.

Lots of books & book shelves.

This might be an obvious suggestion, but aside from their clear educational value, books provide a lovely aesthetic — just by being around them, we’re all inspired to join in on the journey of learning. Through their unmistakable scent, bright and varied colors, and feel, books will be the first thing to bring your education space to life. So why not begin with covering what would’ve been empty walls with beautiful shelves to house your ever-growing library?

A teepee clubhouse.

One of the most important things you can offer your children is a place to practice their own imagination, using all they’ve learned to create and discover on their own. Perfectly suited for cold or rainy days in, an indoor tipi clubhouse will provide them with a magical playhouse where they can pretend, escape, or maybe just take a much-needed nap.

Educational wall decor.

A necessary aspect of education and a child actually retaining information is repetition. What better way to achieve this that to let your walls do some of the teaching? In seeing a beautiful, eye-catching, educational poster, canvas hang, or tapestry everyday, your child will learn things from them without even trying — and at the same time, your homeschooling room will have an even more inviting look.

Chalkboard paint.

While painting your walls is definitely a commitment, it’s one that you’ll be glad you made. Covering your homeschooling room’s walls with chalkboard paint will make for an entire room that acts as a canvas — giving your children the opportunity to stretch their creative muscles, drawing lovely new murals daily. It also serves as a wonderful place to write out lessons, schedules, or even visual representations for your visual learners. But if you’re not quite ready for the commitment of painting, there are also stick on/pull off decals that you can use for the time being.

A bean bag reading chair.

If you’re trying to inspire a love of reading, or even just quiet time, you can’t go wrong by giving your kids a comfortable, fun space to do just that in. What better place is there for them to curl up with a new book than in an oversized bean bag? There, they can spend hours falling into a beautiful, epic story — or maybe even falling asleep.

Lockers.

Let’s face it: children, and all of their belongings, can be incredibly messy. There will never be a shortage of schoolbooks, crafts, toys, or trinkets that seem to always find their way to the floor, right where you need to step. A perfect solution to this issue is lockers. Giving each one of your kids a place to keep some of their personal belongings will help immensely in keeping your homeschooling room neat and tidy. Let them exercise their creativity by letting them decorate their lockers with stickers or magnets! And the best part about lockers? Anytime you want to hide away a mess, it’s as simple as shutting a door.

A desk.

Sometimes, it’s important for a child to have a dedicated place where they can work — having been shown to help with focus, it can also teach independence as they learn to take ownership and responsibility of their own desk, while offering them the opportunity to express their creativity by decorating it in their own unique way. But perhaps the best thing about a desk is that it provides a home for papers, projects, and books — things that might otherwise clutter the room.

A globe.

Every great study, library, or learning room needs a globe! Not only do globes add a lovely flair to any room they’re in, they also serve as a way of igniting wonder and interest as your kids pour over it, learning about geography while imagining all the spectacular places around the world they might one day see. At night, this particular globe we found changes into a map of the stars, detailing constellations in the sky!

A fluffy rug.

When it comes to reading time, some kids might focus better sprawled out on the floor rather than up straight on a chair. So why not provide them with a gorgeous, soft, fluffy rug to listen and learn on? This thick, plush rug is perfectly comfy enough to hold your clean while you all jump into a new story or lesson.

A portable fireplace.

Fire and children often don’t mix well — but setting the mood, especially for cold, snowy, or rainy days inside is a must. This 3D, infrared fireplace looks just like a real flame, and provides real heat all while being totally safe for children, and is controlled with a remote. Cuddle up with your children and flip on the flame to create a cozy, learning mood.
