10 Modern Romantic Movies To Watch This Valentine’s Day

The month of love is in full swing, and this week, many of us are looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day. February 14th acts as a splash of joy and warmth in the middle of winter’s coldest days.

Whether you’ll be spending the day with your special someone, or getting together with your closest girlfriends, you can never go wrong with watching a romantic movie to set the tone and embrace the day.

But you’ve seen all of the classics like Roman Holiday and Casablanca a million times, and you’re in the mood for something new.

01 | Bright Sky (2025)

With Wallflower’s own Editor-in-Chief, Keelia, and her husband Nathan starring, this romantic western film tells the tale of Maria, a single mother with a dark past who comes across William, an outlaw on the run who is yearning for redemption. Though wary at first, Maria soon finds herself falling for William as the two share their stories and discover they have more in common than previously thought.

02 | The Vow (2012)

Paige and Leo are the picture of blissful, deeply in love newlyweds. But when Paige gets into a car accident that causes her to lose her memory of the last few years, including her new husband altogether, Leo must win his wife’s affection once again and rebuild the beautiful bond they shared before the accident.

03 | Emma (2020)

Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, Emma tells the story of a well meaning yet meddlesome, immature young woman who takes it upon herself to play matchmaker for her friends. Along the way, Emma makes her fair share of missteps and finds herself falling for one Mr. Knightly.

04 | Five Feet Apart (2019)

This touching movie tells the tale of Stella and Will, two cystic fibrosis patients whose lives are mostly spent in the hospital. Upon meeting each other, the spark is undeniable. However, because they have the same illness, they aren’t supposed to come within six feet of one another. We watch as they grapple with the reality of their love — a connection that grows, despite their physical distance and inability yo actually be together.

05 | 500 Days of Summer (2009)

Tom is a hopeless romantic. When he meets Summer, he’s absolutely sure she’s the one. The only problem? Summer doesn’t believe in love. The two forge a relationship nonetheless, but soon their differences come to a head. We watch as Tom discovers the fantasies he’s been holding onto about love, and begins to accept the reality of what it means to love someone.

06 | Meet Cute (2022)

Sheila and Gary’s first date went really well. Soon, though, we come to find that Sheila has been time traveling to relive this first date over and over again. She doesn’t stop there — Sheila beings traveling to Gary’s past to mold him into the perfect man. Soon, her plan backfires and Sheila is forced to confront her own past in order to move forward.

07 | The Big Sick (2017)

Based on Kumail Nanjiani’s real life experience with his wife, The Big Sick tells the tale of Kumail, an aspiring stand-up comedian, and Emily, a graduate student. When Emily suddenly falls ill, Kumail is forced to deal with his family’s cultural expectations, Emily’s worried parents, and his feelings for her that went deeper than he’d realized.

08 | Plus One (2019)

Ben and Alice have been friends forever; they’re also both very single. When all of their friends start getting married, they agree to be each other’s plus one at each one. It’s not long before they start to develop feelings for one another, and while they try to play it off as casual, they realize it’s become anything but casual, causing both of them to reflect on their unrealistic expectations, their true desires, and their hangups about love and commitment.

09 | Map Of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)

Mark and Margret are two teenagers who find themselves stuck in the same time loop. The two forge a friendship as they slowly create a map of the tiny, beautiful things that make the day they’re reliving perfect. As they attempt to figure out how to escape the loop, their feelings become romantic.

10 | Redeeming Love (2022)

Based on Francine Rivers’ beloved novel, Redeeming Love tells the tale of a man named Michael Hosea, who prays for a wife. He soon comes across Angel, a beautiful but troubled woman who’s running from demons and works as a prostitute. Their differences seem insurmountable, but soon Angel finds that Michael’s deep love for her changes her from within, enabling her to start a new chapter.
