With the weather warming up and the sun shining longer each day, it’s time to change things up, to try something new and bold and exciting—and there’s no better way to do this than by getting bangs.

While many of us have painful, middle school-related memories that make the word “bangs” strike fear into our heart, we’re firm believers that there is a type of bangs suitable for every face shape and hair type—the trick is figuring out which bangs will work best for you. So which bangs should you get?

For an oval face: soft blunt bangs

If you have an oval-shaped face, chances are, you’ve heard that you can wear nearly any hairstyle. And while this is true, you’ll look the loveliest with some blunt, heavy bangs that are soft around the edges.

For a round face: curtain bangs

Curtain bangs are perfect for rounder faces, which can easily appear too round with heavier, more blunt styles. A wispy, carefree, curtain bang will allow you all of the fun that bangs offer while complimenting your unique face shape.

For a square face: Birkin bangs

Popularized by singer Jane Birkin in the 1960s, Birkin bangs are the perfect balance between wispy and blunt, making them a wonderful shape for square faces. Birkin bangs will offer some softness while maintaining your face’s lovely definition. To style them as Jane did, let them part just a little bit right down the middle.

For a heart face: wispy bangs

Heart-shaped faces are on the more angular side, which means that your bangs should ideally add some softness—this makes wispy bangs the way to go. To draw attention to your beautiful eyes, get your bangs a little bit on the short side (right above your eyebrows).

For a long face: heavy bangs

If you have a longer, thinner face, you may want to add some definition and fullness, which makes think, heavy bangs a great option for you. Blunter bangs will help add sharper angles to your face.
