Which is why we started a series of articles that showcase the various books our readers have been loving lately.

03 | Rilla of Ingleside by L. M. Montgomery

Calling all Anne of Green Gables lovers! The eighth novel in the series and set during World War I, this book follows along as Anne Shirley’s youngest daughter, Rilla, who joins the war effort as a nurse. This wonderful novel also dives into themes like love, loss, bravery, and the desire to find hope in what feels like a time of utter hopelessness.

04 | She Came Back by Patricia Wentworth

Is it possible that a woman could have come back from the dead? That’s the mystery that She Came Back presents to readers, as Anne Jocelyn, supposedly killed by Nazis during the war, comes back to England to find her husband three years after she was buried. Anne claims it was her friend, not her, who was buried, and that she’s been in hiding for years. But is any of it true? If you enjoy mysteries that are full of twists and turns, this is the book for you.

05 | The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

This #1 New York Times bestselling World war 11-set novel tells the tale of two sisters in France, both of whom have found their lives upended by the war. And while they their circumstances, experiences, and ideals separate them, what they have in common is their fight for love, survival, and freedom in the midst of devastation. With nearly five stars and close to 300,000 reviews, The Nightingale is a must-read.

06 | A Girl Called Samson by Amy Harmon

Inspired by the true story of Deborah Samson (though with creative liberties taken), A Girl Called Samson tells the tale of a young woman who disguises herself as a solider in the midst of the American colonies and their battle for independence. With its dose of romance thrown in, this will undoubtedly be a fun read.

07 | To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

A classic that is still just as moving as when it was first written, To Kill A Mockingbird, set in early 1930s Alabama, tells a gripping story through the eyes of a young girl as she watches her father, a lawyer, passionately defend an innocent black man who’s been wrongfully accused of a terrible crime.

08 | Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce

Set in 1950s London, Margery Benson is a schoolteacher who is living a decidedly un-luxurious life, barely managing to scrape by.
